We have been homeschooling for 7 years now. Here are a few reasons why we homeschool (and love it)!
We believe it is what God has for our family.
When Patrick and I got married and started having our kids, we just always knew we would homeschool. I don’t really have an exciting testimony of how we decided to homeschool. It’s just something that came naturally for us.
Our children are free to learn and grow at their own pace.
If they need to repeat a lesson, we do. If they can skip ahead a couple lessons, we do. I am learning more and more every year not to be chained to whatever curriculum we are using. It’s important to find out what your child needs and do that! Every child learns and grows differently and that is okay!
They learn things from a Biblical world view.
We incorporate the Bible into our studies. It nurtures their faith and makes them stronger in their Christian beliefs.
Home is a safe place.
It is safe to ask questions. To learn and grow. To be who they are. To discover and explore the gifts God has given them.
We get to set our own schedule!
If it is a beautiful fall day, we can go enjoy it in the morning and come home to do school in the afternoon. If Patrick has vacation time from work, we can take that time off to enjoy his vacation with him. We can be flexible!
We are helping to nurture strong sibling relationships.
They are together all day, everyday. I love seeing them having fun and playing together throughout the day. Now everyone does not always get along perfectly over here, I promise you. But I think that even working through their fights and arguments brings them closer to each other. Friends will come and go but they will always have their siblings. (Yes, they do have friends, too!)
I love spending time with them!
When we are sitting in the living room doing a history or reading lesson, I feel so content and thankful that I am able to spend this extra time with my kids. It is time to get to know them more and do life together. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Those are a few of the reasons we homeschool. Do you homeschool? If so, what are some of your reasons?
